ETE202Strength of Materials

Course Prerequisites ToolSNHU ETE202 has 5 direct prerequisites, with 11 courses in its complete prerequisite tree, and is required by 2 other courses.

Undergraduate · 3 credits

In this course, students will learn how to conduct fundamental stress, strain, and deflection analyses to effectively analyze and design mechanical structures. They will also apply these fundamental analyses using linear superposition to analyze structures with more complex loadings, including generalized bending, internal pressures, and combined loadings. Additionally, students will evaluate safety margins through a comprehensive approach involving stress analysis, material properties, and geometric properties. Course topics include stress-strain analysis of statically determinate and indeterminate analysis structures under axial, shear, torsional, and bending loads, as well as linear-elastic finite element analysis, and an introduction to failure due to stress concentrations, buckling, and mechanisms with associated stress transformation analysis through Mohr’s Circle.
