In this course, students will explore a survey of the fundamental concepts of materials science as they apply to engineering. Students will develop an understanding of atomic bonds and crystal structures. The impact of crystal defects, static diffusion and heat treatments on materials will also be studied. Students will have the opportunity to conduct research related to the application of materials in engineering to further their knowledge and understanding. Through laboratory activities on mechanical properties, students will explore tools to acquire and analyze properties of different materials.
