POL329How to Negotiate So That Everyone Wins: A Role-Playing Simulation
Course Prerequisites ToolSNHU POL329 has no listed prerequisites.
Undergraduate · 3 credits
This course introduces students to a strategy for negotiating in diplomatic, business, and other settings so that all parties win. Students spend most of the course developing, implementing, and evaluating win-win negotiation strategies in two negotiation simulations. Both unfold in diplomatic settings and environmental contexts. Yet the lessons learned in these simulations apply just as well to any negotiation setting or subject matter context. In the first simulation, students assume the roles of the member-states of the International Whaling Commission. In that capacity, they negotiate the fate of a controversial proposal to end the international ban on commercial whaling, among other proposals. In the second simulation, students assume the roles of states or blocs of states negotiating the fundamentals of a new global climate change mitigation regime. They do so with the help of C-ROADS, a free, award-winning, online climate change simulator, and its extension En-ROADS.
